iPad Troubleshooting Guide

Use this guide to help troubleshoot your iPad issues.

Most iPad issues can be solved by rebooting (also known as restarting).

  1. Press and hold  the top button and either volume button until the red slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider to turn off iPad.
  3. To turn the iPad on, hold down the top button until the Apple logo appears.
  4. When the iPad has rebooted, see if the issue persists..

iPad not charging?

  1. Check that you are using an iPad Charger and not a smaller phone charger.
  2. Check the cable and ports for any damage.
  3. If you can, try plugging another device into the charger and see if that device is able to charge.
  4. Try plugging in a different cable to see if your iPad will charge.
  5. If none of that works, try rebooting the iPad. If rebooting doesn't work, contact the helpdesk.

App not responding or crashing?

  1. To quit an app, open the app switcher by swiping up from the bottom edge and pause in the center of the screen, then swipe up on the app you want to close, then re-open the app.
  2. If that doesn't work, try to see if there is an update for the app. Go to Self Service app then update the apps listed.
  3. If it’s still not working, reboot the iPad then try the app again.
  4. If none of the steps above work, contact the helpdesk.

Sound isn’t coming out of the iPad?

  1. Verify the volume isn’t turned down.
  2. Bring the control panel down (swipe down from upper right corner of the home screen) and check that the silent mode (bell icon) isn't colored red. If it is, tap the bell icon to turn off silent mode.
  3. If that doesn't work, try rebooting the iPad.

iPad isn’t connecting to Wi-Fi?

  1. Go to Settings->WiFi and turn Wi-Fi off, then on again.
  2. Check if other devices are working.  If not contact your service provider.
  3. Reboot the iPad and try to reconnect to the Wi-Fi.
  4. If you are still experiencing Wi-Fi issues, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  5. Enter your passcode, then tap Reset.
  6. When the iPad restarts go to Settings > WiFi and rejoin the Wi-Fi network. (You will need to enter the WiFi password again)
