Procreate Backup
Tutorial Summary: This guide will show you how to manually backup and restore your Procreate data by exporting your files to iCloud Drive and then importing them to your iPad.
Before starting the steps below, go to Settings on your iPad and confirm that you are signed in to the Apple ID you would like to backup to. This is usually your school Apple ID ([email protected]).

Exporting from Procreate
- Open the Procreate app and tap on Select in the top right corner.
- Tap on the file(s) you would like to backup. Each selected file will have a checkmark to the left of the file name.
- Tap on Share in the top right and then tap on Procreate when selecting the Image Format.
- A window will pop up. Tap Save to Files.
- Under the Locations menu, tap on iCloud Drive to select it as the backup location.
- Create a new folder and name it Procreate.
- Tap Save in the top right corner.
Confirming Export to iCloud Drive
- Go to the Files app.
- Under the Locations menu, tap on iCloud Drive then tap on the Procreate folder.
- Confirm that all Procreate files that you exported are there. Files will have a .procreate file extension.
- Look for Synced with iCloud to confirm that all files have completely and successfully uploaded to iCloud Drive. Upload times may vary.
Importing to Procreate
- Open the Procreate app and tap on Import in the top right corner.
- Under the Locations menu, tap on iCloud Drive then tap on the Procreate folder.
- Tap on a Procreate file that you want to import.
- The file will open in Procreate and will be available in the Gallery.
- Repeat from step 1 of the importing process for each additional Procreate file you want to import.
